I-35 Improvements Project

Information on this MoDOT project can be found at http://www.modot.mo.gov/kansascity/major_projects/I35kearney.htm

KEARNEY, Mo.- The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will begin repairing and improving eight miles of I-35 near Kearney beginning this spring. The work will include extensive road improvements to provide a new roadway in addition to in-depth bridge repairs on both the north and southbound lanes over a two-year period.

MoDOT is sharing its plans for this construction project, and seeking feedback from citizens in December and January. The public can learn more about the construction impacts through an online public meeting at www.modot.org/kansascity.

"More than 17,000 motorists use this corridor every day. We know it will inconvenience drivers as traffic becomes one lane in each direction during this project. We want citizens to go online or stop by our meeting in Kearney to understand how these changes will impact them, and to provide feedback on the project," said Kirsten Munck, MoDOT Area Engineer for Clay and Platte counties.

Crews will do extensive pavement rehabilitation to rebuild the aging infrastructure currently in place for eight miles on both north and southbound I-35 between the Clinton County Line and Fishing River. MoDOT will take advantage of the closed interstate to also rehabilitate ten bridges to avoid inconveniencing the motoring public at a later date. These structures include Fishing River, Route 92, Route 33, Clear Creek and Holt Creek in both directions. The crews will work on one direction at a time, reducing traffic from two lanes to one lane, head-to-head traffic.

For further information about this project and others, please visit MoDOT"s Facebook page, Twitter site, or web site at www.modot.mo.gov/kansascity. You can also contact MoDOT 24 hours-a-day at 888-ASK-MODOT to find out information or report road concerns.
